1843–1919

Georges Clairin was a French painter and illustrator.

He studied painting in Paris in the ateliers of Isidore Pils and François-Édouard Picot and, in 1861, at the École des Beaux-Arts.

As an artist, he was greatly interested in exoticism and orientalism. He designed posters representing his lover, the actress Sarah Bernhardt, in the title role of Victorien Sardou’s play, Théodora.
